Men’s Soccer Signs Stevens to 2017 Recruiting Class

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer announced the third member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, Tennyson Stevens. The central midfielder currently attends Chatfield Senior High School and hails from Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

"I chose Santa Clara because of the University's commitment to academic excellence and creating a better, more sustainable and just world to live in," Stevens said. "I also chose SCU because of the soccer program's commitment to playing a creative, possession-based style of play while developing elite players and young men. The University also has a beautiful campus and welcoming atmosphere."

He has played soccer for the Colorado Rapids Development Academy and was ranked the No. 14 recruit in the Rocky Mountain Region by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Stevens was selected to play in the MLS Generation Adidas Cup from 2013-2016 and was invited to train with the French Football Federation through the MLS. He also traveled with the Rapids Development Academy to Munich, Germany in the summer of 2016 to play against TSV 1860 Munich (U19) and FC Ingolstadt 04 (U19).

"Tennyson is a smart player and can solve a lot of problems in the midfield," head coach Cameron Rast said. "He has a lot of great potential to be able to impact our group but he's already a good player now. He does a good job in terms of balancing the midfield, moving the ball quickly and being able to read the game and become very effective defensively."

Stevens is the first player in the Colorado Rapids Academy to start from the U11 level and move all the way through the academy to the U18 Development Academy level and sign with a university. Santa Clara has had former players involved with the Rapids Academy as well as a former Bronco coach who now works with that group.

"Tennyson is one of these young guys that we think can have a really bright future," Rast said. "We're anxious to get him in the program and get him working with the guys to see where that potential really lies. We are excited to have him."

Stevens did not play for his high school soccer teams due to playing in development academies, however, he was on the Honor Roll each semester at Chatfield Senior High School and will graduate in the top five percent of his class. He will pursue a marketing degree in the Leavey School of Business.
