Four Broncos Earn WCC Accolades

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer had four student-athletes on the All-West Coast Conference teams, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.

Junior defender Valdemar Andersen and senior defender Brennan Castro both earned All-WCC second team honors. Junior forward Carlos Delgadillo earned All-WCC honorable mention recognition and defender Jalani Ambrose was named to the WCC All-Freshman team.

This is the third-straight year that Andersen has been recognized by the league for his play. He was an honorable mention honoree in 2014 and claimed First Team All-WCC plaudits in 2015. For the 2016 season, Andersen started in each of the 13 games he played in and was a staple in the Broncos defense that led the league in goals against average for all but one week of the season.

Castro's honor from the WCC is the first of his career. The team captain played every minute of every game for the Broncos on the year.  He also showed great versatility for head coach Cameron Rast, playing left back as well as center back when necessary. He guided the team to posting four shutouts on the year and allowing just 1.03 goals per game.

Like Andersen, this honor is the third of Delgadillo's career. He was a First Team All-WCC member in 2015 and claimed honorable mention accolades in 2014. Delgadillo was the leading scorer for the Broncos for the third-straight year. Two of his four goals were game-winners and he also had a game-winning assist to junior Satoshi "Yoshi" Chaffin. With 18 goals for his career, Delgadillo is two goals away from cracking the Santa Clara all-time top 10 list.

Ambrose missed the first part of the season due to injury but was able to play in nine games, five of which he started. Playing at right back, Ambrose's speed was very beneficial to the Broncos' stout defense throughout the year. He was also able to get forward provide support in the attack.
