Men’s Soccer Signs O’Brien to 2017 Recruiting Class

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer announced the fourth member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, Aran O'Brien. The goalkeeper currently attends Eastside Catholic High School and hails from Bellevue, Washington.

"I decided to play soccer at Santa Clara because it fit me as a goalkeeper and my ambitions for my future," O'Brien said. "But, I also chose it because Santa Clara is a great university academically and the school is in a great area."

At 6-4, O'Brien played two years of varsity soccer at Eastside Catholic High School as a freshman and sophomore. He was the starting goalkeeper both of those seasons before he became the full-time starter at Crossfire Premier Academy.

"Aran has some good size and he plays at a very good level and a very good club," head coach Cameron Rast said. "We are going to be able to refine his skills and push him forward and see where his potential really lies at this level."

O'Brien had a lot of success over his youth career. His team was named the 2014 WSYS State Champions, 2014 Jefferson Cup Finalists and 2015 Dallas Cup Finalists. Furthermore, his team won the 2016 Surf Cup u19 Super Group and qualified for the 2016 USSDA Playoffs.

"We are looking forward to him joining the team and to what he will contribute when he gets here," Rast said.

Born in Cork City in the Republic of Ireland, O'Brien is one five sons to Edmund O'Brien and Nicole Wolki. He aspires to be a Chief Financial Officer and will be pursuing a degree in the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara.
