Rodeo Tournament Schedule/Results

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In the opener of the Rodeo Tournament, Santa Clara men's water polo was unable to overcome a strong start and balanced offensive attack from Brown, which knocked off the Broncos, 13-7, Friday evening in the last of four games at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

Warren Smith, Tyler Kirchberg, Jake Wyatt and Hudson Rawlings each scored two goals for the 10th-ranked Bears (13-6) who won their seventh-straight contest.

Graham McClone and Mac Carey each tallied a pair of goals for the 20th-ranked Broncos (6-10) who are playing host to the four-day, 15-team tournament.

Goals at the end of both the first and second quarters proved to be the difference for Brown.

An exclusion tally from McClone with 1:44 left in the first quarter cut the Bears' lead to 4-2, but goals from Rico Burke, Yahel Murvitz-Lahav and Smith in just more than a one-minute span made it a five-score cushion.

After Shane Hughes scored early in the second quarter, Brown scored three straight exclusion goals in a two-minute period to increase the lead to 10-3.

The Bears were 4-for-10 with the man advantage, while the Broncos were only 1 of 12, though did connect on a pair of 5-meter penalty shots in the fourth quarter.

McClone and Carey each connected on penalty shots as Santa Clara scored three late goals.
