SARATOGA, Calif. – Playing without all-conference outfielder and the league's top hitter Briana Knight for the weekend, the Santa Clara University softball team dropped a pair of games to Loyola Marymount Saturday at West Valley College.

Knight, who rolled her ankle in Thursday's game against Oregon State, watched as LMU (21-21; 5-1 PCSC) starter Molly Medeiros limit the Broncos to just three hits in Game One. Santa Clara (6-17; 2-4 PCSC) was blanked in the doubleheader's opener 8-0 and dropped Game Two 8-2.

The Broncos entered the game 2-2 in Pacific Coast Conference Softball play and will try and rebound when the series continues tomorrow, with another doubleheader scheduled for 12 noon.

Amanda Edmonson hit a two-run homer in Game Two to tighten-up a three-run game in favor of LMU in the fifth. With the score 3-2 and senior Jenna Fong pitching well for the Broncos, defensive miscues by SCU led to four unearned runs in the top of the sixth to break things open and give LMU the sweep.

The PCSC's leading homerun hitter, Kelly Sarginson, hit a three-run shot down the left field line during that four-run sixth. Kathryn Dutton hit a grand slam for LMU in the opener.

The series will continue on Sunday. Follow all the action live on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
