Offense Sparks SCU Softball Victory in Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Freshman Krista Jensen hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh to lift Santa Clara past Sacred Heart 7-6 at the Colorado State University Classic Friday afternoon.

Santa Clara (1-4) saw its offense come to life against Sacred Heart (1-1), totaling a season-high 11 hits and scoring seven times to rally from a two-run deficit. Jensen's game-winning double scored Briana Knight, who hit a one-out double earlier in the inning.

The offense was immediate Friday for the Broncos with Jamie Wallis driving solo homerun to left field to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Knight, Kristin Welsh, Jensen and Jackie Nicora - the heart of Broncos lineup – each doubled and tallied two hits.

Amanda Edmonson tripled in the sixth, which allowed Santa Clara to break a 5-5 tie and take the lead heading into the seventh.

The Pioneers scored four times in the first three innings off Bronco freshman starter Jessica Turner and rallied for run to tie it in the seventh, but senior SCU Jenna Fong pitched her way out of a bases-loaded jam to set the stage for Jensen's game-winning hit.

The later game between Santa Clara and Colorado was suspended due to darkness after six innings. The game will resume on Sunday at 12:15 MT.
