SCU Softball Wins Three Times at Colorado State Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Santa Clara University softball team went 3-2 at the Colorado State Classic over the weekend, scoring 37 runs and banging out 40 hits in five games.

Sophomore shortstop Jamie Wallis (pictured), from San Jose's Lynnbrook High School, hit four homers and scored nine runs to power the Bronco offense. Wallis was 5 for 14 (.357 BA) during the five games, including going 3 for 3 with four runs in Santa Clara's 13-10 win over host CSU on Friday.

The Broncos (3-6) won their first three games of the tournament, also topping Sacred Heart 7-6 and 8-6. Senior Jenna Fong improved to 3-1 on the year, going down as the pitcher of record in all three wins.

Fong worked 12 1/3 innings and struck out six during the trip. Freshman Jessica Turner pitched 14 2/3 innings, starting in four of the five games.

The terrific offensive numbers for SCU also included a 6 for 11 (.545 BA) tournament for junior All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference outfielder Briana Knight, who homered twice and doubled. Freshman Kelly Scribner played and started in all five games and hit .500 (5 for 10) and rookie classmate Krista Jensen drove in a team-best nine runs.
