PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 10 Stanford University softball team downed Santa Clara University, 12-0, in five innings Tuesday, at Smith Family Stadium. It was the Cardinal's home finale.

Stanford (36-11) senior Ashley Chinn tossed the shutout, her fifth of the year. Chinn upped her record to 16-3. Chinn saw the Stanford offense supply her with three runs in the first inning, and five more in the third.

Santa Clara (6-29) had two hits on the night in support of senior starter Jenna Fong and freshman Jessica Turner. Jamie Wallis had SCU's first hit in the third inning and Briana Knight added another in the fourth.

Knight upped her season batting average to .435. The junior from Fairfield, Calif. leads the team in virtually every offensive category, including average, hits (27), doubles (5), homers (8), RBI (19), total bases (58) and slugging percentage (.935).

The Broncos will look to rebound and end the season on a positive note this weekend. SCU will take on long-time rival St. Mary's in Moraga Saturday and Sunday.
