SCU Drops Game to Pacific, Plays No. 13 Oregon Sunday

Libby Matson Tournament Central

STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman Kelly Scribner homered for Santa Clara but the Broncos allowed nine first-inning runs in an 11-1 loss at Pacific Saturday. It was the first of two games for Santa Clara this weekend at UOP's Libby Matson Tournament.

Santa Clara (0-3) will play No. 13 Oregon Sunday at 2 p.m.

Pacific (5-2) scored nine times on four hits in the first inning, chasing SCU freshmen starter Jessica Turner after she induced just one out through the first nine batters. Amy Moore hit a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch she saw from Turner in the first inning to put the host Tigers up 6-0.

Moore finished the day 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI. Starting pitcher Nikki Armagost worked three innings of shutout softball and struck out six. Armagost also went 2 for 3 at the plate, singling in the first and hitting a double in the third.

Scribner's solo homerun came off Pacific reliever Gabby McDaniel in the fourth. It was the freshman's first collegiate homer and accounted for all the Broncos' scoring Saturday.

SCU's offense had five hits compared to Pacific's eight but the Bronco pitchers issued 10 walks.
