Men's Golf in 10th Place at NMSU Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Following team rounds of 297 and 299, the Santa Clara University men's golf team sits in a tie for 10th place at the Herb Wimberly/New Mexico State University Invitational being held at the University Golf Club.

Wichita State University holds the team lead following its 23-under par performance of 553 on day one as the Shockers posted rounds of 280 and 273 at the par-72 track. Lamar University is second at 17-under par, followed by New Mexico State at 11-under.

Chris Stroud of Lamar leads the individual race following rounds of 67 and 64 for a 13-under par score of 131 on day one. Brian Thornburg of New Mexico State is second at 9-under par, followed by Jesse Schulte and Ty Cline of Wichita State who finished the first day at 7-under par.

Matt Klenz was the top finisher for the Broncos, sitting alone in 32nd place entering the final day on Tuesday following his rounds of 75 and 73. Justin Ahasic is tied for 33rd at 5-over par after carding rounds of 74 and 75.

Michael Nicoletti sits in a tie for 41st after rounds of 74 and 76 while teammate John Colyar posted a 76 in round one and a 75 in round two. Colyar is currently in a tie for 48th. Jong Yoon rounded out the Bronco scoring with his 74 in the morning and 81 in the afternoon. He is tied for 59th at 11-over par.

Tuesday's third and final round will be contested in the morning at the 7,017-yard course located just minutes from the New Mexico State campus. Following Tuesday's round, the Broncos will return to action on March 22-23 at the Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.
