Men's Golf to Compete at Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

April 2, 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team returns to action Monday as participants of the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara. This year's tournament will be played at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, about an hour northwest of the Gaucho campus.

The tournament consists of 18 teams competing over 54 holes of play: 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start. Santa Clara joins West Coast Conference opponents Saint Mary's and San Diego, as well as six Big West schools, four WAC teams, two squads from the Mountain West, Pac-10 power Washington State and Division II participant UC Davis.

"La Purisima is a great course," UCSB head coach Steve Lass said, as the Intercollegiate is returning to Lompoc for the first time in two years. "Not only is it a beautiful setting, but it is extremely challenging. I am very excited about holding the tournament there."

La Purisima is a 7,105-yard, par-72 layout. The course hosted the 1997 PGA Tour School Finals.

The Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate is the first of three tournaments the Broncos will play in April to close out their season schedule. Santa Clara will next compete at the WCC Championships, to be held April 12-13 in Fresno. SCU will conclude the spring season at the U.S. Intercollegiate, hosted by Stanford April 17-18.
