Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team finished 12th at the 58th Annual Western Intercollegiate hosted by San Jose State University at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz. The Broncos fired a final round 299 on Tuesday placing them two shots ahead of cross-town rival San Jose State and 36 shots ahead of West Coast Conference rival San Francisco.

Freshman Jong Yoon carded the Broncos' lowest round of the day, shooting a final round score of 1-over par, 73. He finished the tournament with a three-round total of 11-over par, good enough for a tie for 36th place.

Senior Justin Ahasic also finished in a tie for 36th place with his tournament total of 11-over, 221. His final round score of 76 was the last score take for the Broncos on Tuesday. Both Matt Klenz and Jonathan Edwards fired final round scores of 5-over par, 75 at the 6,445-yard Alistair MacKenzie designed course.

Edwards finished in a tie for 45th with his tournament total of 13-over par, 223, while Klenz finished in a tie for 70th place at 22-over par. Michael Nicoletti rounded out the SCU scores on Tuesday with his final round 79. He concluded the tournament in a tie for 41st place at 12-over par after his first two round scores of 72 and 71.

The University of Colorado won the team title with its score of 12-under par, 852, finishing two strokes ahead of California and three ahead of Georgia Tech.

Kane Webber of Colorado claimed medallist honors with his three-round tournament total of 4-under par, 206. Bret Lederer of Long Beach State finished second at 2-under par, while Peter Tomasulo of California finished third with his 1-under par score of 209.

Santa Clara returns to action on April 5-6 at the UCSB Bite Invitational that will be held at the Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, Calif. That will be the Broncos' final tune-up prior to the WCC Championships that will be held on April 12-13 at the Riverbend Golf Club in Fresno, Calif.
