Men's Golf in 11th Place UCSB Intercollegiate

LOMPOC, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team is currently in 11th place after the first of two days at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by UC Santa Barbara at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc, about an hour northwest of the Gaucho campus.

The Broncos played team rounds of 306 and 304 on the par-72, 7,105-yard layout, and are 34 strokes over par in the 18-team field. There is a tie at the top: UC Davis and CS Northridge share the team lead following their five-over par 581 performance. Saint Mary's is third just one stroke back, and is followed by UC Riverside at 11-over 587 and New Mexico State at 13-over 589 to round out the top five.

The Broncos are led by Jong Yoon, who finished his rounds five-over par and tied for 24th in the field. Jonathan Edwards is tied for 30th just one stroke behind his teammate. Santa Clara finished out the day as follows: Justin Ahasic is tied for 67th at 157, Matt Klenz is tied for 70th place, just one stroke behind Ahasic and Michael Nicoletti rounds out the scorecard with his 162, and is tied for 85th place.

Pete Sisich of Northridge leads the individual competition after scoring rounds of 70 and 69 for a five-under par 139. Brian Thornburg of New Mexico State is at four-under, and 10 other competitors carded rounds at or below par.

Tuesday's third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate is the first of three tournaments the Broncos will play in April to close out their season schedule. Santa Clara will next compete at the WCC Championships, to be held April 12-13 in Fresno. SCU will conclude the spring season at the U.S. Intercollegiate, hosted by Stanford April 17-18.
