SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's golf team is currently in 11th place after the first of two days at the 58th annual Western Intercollegiate, hosted by San Jose State at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz.

The Broncos played team rounds of 295 and 286 on the par-70, 6,445-yard layout, and are 21 strokes over par in the 15-team field. There is a three-way tie at the top: No. 45 Colorado, fourth-ranked Georgia Tech and No. 16 California share the team lead following their two-over par 562 performance. UC Riverside is fourth just four strokes back, and is followed by Long Beach State at 570 to round out the top five. Rankings are by GolfStat.

The Broncos are led by Michael Nicoletti, who finished his rounds three-over par and tied for 20th in the field. Justin Ahasic is tied for 29th just two strokes behind his teammate. Santa Clara finished out the day as follows: Jonathan Edwards and Jong Yoon are tied for 45th, as both shot an eight-over 148, and Matt Klenz is at 157.

Peter Tomasulo of California, ranked 11th nationally, leads the individual competition after scoring rounds of 70 and 66 for a four-under par 136. Three players are just two strokes back and tied for second: No. 48 Kane Webber of Colorado, Robert Castro of Georgia Tech and Spencer Paschall of UC Riverside.

Tuesday's third and final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
