KAHUKU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara University men's golf team concluded day one of the University of Hawaii Turtle Bay Intercollegiate in ninth place following rounds of 307 and 298. The Broncos are 14 strokes behind tournament leader Virginia and South Carolina, but only six shots out of the top-five.

Michael Nicoletti and Jong Yoon led the way for SCU on Monday with their two round total of 4-over par, 148, at the 7,199-yard, par 72 course in Kahuku, Hawaii. Nicoletti carded rounds of 76 and 72 while Yoon fired rounds of 75 and 73. The pair is currently in a five-way tie for 13th place heading into day two.

Justin Ahasic rebounded from an opening round 79 to card a 1-over par, 73, in Monday's second round. He is currently tied for 30th at 8-over par. Matt Klenz is tied for 57th at 13-over after rounds of 77 and 80 while Blake Lugar rounded out the Bronco scores with rounds of 81 and 91.

Santa Clara is one of five West Coast Conference competitors in the event. San Francisco is in third place, just one shot out of the lead after consecutive rounds of 296. Saint Mary's is tied for fourth at 599, followed by SCU at 605. Portland and San Diego round out the WCC scores with their team totals of 620 and 632, respectively.

Tuesday's third and final round will get underway at approximately 9 a.m. Pacific time. It will mark the final round of the Fall season for the Broncos in 2003.
