Osintsev Claims Conference Player of the Week Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Senior Ilya Osintsev captured the West Coast Conference men's tennis singles Player of the Week award this week for his victorious performances on the road this past weekend.

"Ilya definitely deserves this recognition," said head coach Derek Mills. "He has started the season very strong and really dominated this past week on the road. He is one of the best players on the West Coast and I am very happy he finally is getting some recognition."

Taking on Weber State University's Stefan Cooper last Friday, the Santa Clara senior rallied after dropping the first set 4-6 to capture the next two sets 6-3, 3-2(11-9). He followed that come-from-behind performance just one day later with a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing of Andrey Goryackhov from Brigham Young University.

The two victories propelled the lefty to ninth place on Santa Clara's all-time singles wins list. He now has 59 career singles victories under his belt and is currently 9-5 on the year and 7-2 in dual match play.

Last season, Osintsev racked up three Player of the Week awards for his dominating performances in singles play.
