SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With the team score tied at 3-all, Nick Cmager delivered a come from behind match-clinching win over Rudolfs Aksenoks to lift Santa Clara men's tennis to a 4-3 win over Sacramento State on Sunday.
Playing on court five, the Bronco sophomore dropped the first set against Aksenoks but won a tightly contested second set in a tie-breaker and eventually the third set to capture the win, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
After Sacramento State (1-5) took the doubles point on Aksenoks and Jan Silva's 6-1 win over Cmager and Santiago Hinojosa on court three, Santa Clara (2-1) evened the match courtesy of Guillaume Dalmasso's singles win over Michael Vizcarra, 6-0, 6-1 on court four.
Arthur Neuhaus and Hinojosa picked up singles wins to give the Broncos a 3-2 edge.
Hermont Legaspi halted the Broncos initial attempt at clinching the match when he defeated Dominic Barretto 7-5, 7-5 on court one before Cmager's victory.
