Volleyball Loses to No. 10 Georgia Tech

LINCOLN, Neb. - The 13th-ranked Santa Clara University women's volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match to a top-10 ranked opponent, losing to No. 10 Georgia Tech by a 3-1 score Saturday morning in Lincoln, Neb. The loss moves SCU's record to 5-3 while improving the Yellow Jacket's mark to 8-0.

The Broncos, who dropped its first match of the U.S. Bank/Arby's Classic last night to No. 5 Nebraska, came out of the gates slow and lost the first game by a 30-22 count. They made things interesting in game two, but were unable to get over the hump and dropped that game as well, this time by a 31-29 margin.

Georgia Tech closed things out in game three with a 30-24 win, giving them their second-straight sweep of a top-20 opponent. The Yellow Jackets defeated No. 17 Michigan State in three-straight games in the first match of the Nebraska tournament Friday evening.

Sophomores Toni Muratore and Cassie Perret each had 10 kills in the match to lead the Broncos while senior Becky Potter chipped in with seven and a team-high 13 digs. Kelli Sousa dished out 35 assists, nine of which came off the arm of fellow senior Becky Biniek who accumulated those nine kills on only 19 attacks.

The Broncos only managed a .178 hitting percentage compared to the .313 percentage that was posted by Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets' All-American Lynette Moster notched a match-high 17 kills to go along with seven digs. Kele Eveland picked up 47 assists while Marisa Aston led a group of four in double-digit digs with 12.

Santa Clara concludes play at the U.S. Bank/Arby's Classic in Lincoln on Sunday with a 10 a.m. match against No. 17 Michigan State. Following this tournament the Broncos' will remain on the road for a three-match tournament in Columbia, S.C., hosted by the University of South Carolina.
