Potter Named WCC Player of the Week

Oct. 14, 2003

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University women's volleyball middle blocker Becky Potter has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for her efforts last week against California and San Diego.

The senior from Clovis, Calif., led the Broncos to a 1-1 record over the week, having swept 18th-ranked San Diego 3-0, following a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at 9th-ranked California. Potter ended the week with 4.50 kills per game, a .313 hitting percentage (36 kills, 10 errors, 83 attempts), 2.50 digs per game and 2.0 blocks per game.

She became only the fifth player in program history, and the first since 1991, to record a triple-double when she posted 19 kills, 13 digs and 11 total blocks against the Golden Bears Wednesday night.

In Saturday night's home win over San Diego, she notched a team-high 17 kills to go along with seven digs in helping the Broncos to their second win over a top-20 opponent this season.

It was her 20 kills and nine digs that led SCU to a 3-2 victory over then 10th-ranked Arizona earlier this year, earning her WCC Player of the Week honors for the first time on September 8. During her four-year career on the Mission Campus, Potter has now won the WCC Player of the Week award on six separate occasions.

Potter and the Broncos return to the court this weekend with a pair of matches against Bay Area WCC schools. Santa Clara will take on San Francisco Friday before hosting Saint Mary's Saturday night. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Leavey Center.
