SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Setter Kelli Sousa was named the West Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Tuesday morning following a weekend in which she led the 12th-ranked Broncos to a pair of convincing wins over San Francisco and Saint Mary's.

The senior from Castro Valley posted 43 assists, 10 digs and two block assists in the 3-0 win over USF Friday evening, marking the first time all season that an opponent had swept San Francisco. In Saturday night's 3-0 win over Saint Mary's, Sousa registered 54 assists, nine digs, two kills and one block assist in the match, improving the Broncos' record to 14-6 overall and keeping them perfect in WCC play at 5-0.

She finished the week averaging 16.17 assists per game, 3.16 digs per game and 0.50 blocks per game. Her setting also guided the Bronco offense to a .300 hitting percentage in the two matches with 115 kills in the six games. She also spread the ball around well enough that four players ended Saturday night's match with double-digit kills.

The player of the week honor is the second of her career as she earned the same honor as a junior on November 4, 2002. It is also the third time this season that a Bronco has earned the honor as Becky Potter was twice named Player of the Week (September 8 and October 11).

T he Broncos will face Loyola Marymount Friday evening at 7 p.m. before taking on Pepperdine Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Sunday's match with the Waves will be televised live on College Sports TV and will mark the first time that a WCC match will be shown on national televsion.
