Playing its third match in 24 hours to start the season, Santa Clara defeated Eastern Washington 3-0 Saturday.  The Broncos won 25-19, 25-19 and 25-18. Earlier in the day Eastern Washington defeated Washington State in five sets.  Santa Clara finishes the tournament at 2-1 and heads to Utah Valley State next weekend for three matches.

"I'd like to have left Seattle 3-0, but I think we learned this weekend we need to be ready to compete every match," said Bronco head coach Jon Wallace.  "We ran a 6-2 today and used a lot of different line-ups, a lot of different people in a out.  It gave us a chance to see what worked. The girls want to win and so they are buying into the changes.  Dana and Tanya played really steady this weekend.  Kat was really good the last two matches, she has been putting the ball away.  I am looking forward to watching up play again next weekend in Utah against Cal Poly, Michigan and Utah Valley State. We need to continue to get better every day."

Santa Clara hit .231 with 50 kills (23 e, 117 att.).  The Broncos added 48 digs, 46 assists, two service aces and seven team blocks.  EWU hit .022 with 22 kills (20 e, 90 att.).  They added 36 digs, 21 assists, four aces and 11 team blocks. 

Individually, Santa Clara was led by Katherine Douglas who scored 14 kills, hitting .360 with nine digs.  Dana Knudsen continued her fine play in the middle, collecting eight kills, hitting .667 with three block assists and a block solo.  Kayla Lommori had 11 kills, four digs and two block solos.  Alexandra Palmer and Alyssa Anderson split time as the setter, with Palmer collecting 19 assists and nine digs and Anderson scoring 20 assists and six digs.  Libero Bridget O'Hara scooped up 15 digs.

Eastern Washington had no one in double-figure kills with Kayla Randles and Cora Kellerman scoring a team-high five kills.

The Broncos hit .150 in the first set, .316 in the second and .231 in the deciding set.  Eastern Washington hit -.065 in the first set, .194 in the second and -.071 in the third.
