Hosting BYU for the first time since it joined the WCC, Santa Clara fell in straight sets Saturday at the Leavey Center. Set scores were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-22.  Santa Clara is 9-12 and 4-6 in league play.  BYU is 18-7 and 7-4 in WCC play.

Santa Clara hit .112 with 38 kills (27e, 98 att.). The Broncos collected 34 digs, 38 assists, one service ace, six service errors and three team blocks.  BYU hit .341 with 37 kills (9e, 82 att.). The Cougars collected 28 digs, 33 assists, five service aces, three service errors and 9.5 team blocks.

 Individually Santa Clara was led by this past week's WCC Player of the Week Dana Knudsen. Knudsen hit .625 with 12 kills (2e, 16att.).  Kaleigh Durket scored 10 kills, hitting .273 (4e, 22att.).  Katherine Douglas had eight digs and five digs.  Bridget O'Hara had 11 digs and Alyssa Anderson had 37 assists.

Jennifer Hamson led the Cougars with 16 kills, hitting .667 (2 e, 21 att.).  Heather Hannemann had 29 assists and six digs.  Kendalyn Hartstock had seven digs to lead the Cougars. 

BYU won set one 25-11.  The first point lasted almost a minute with Santa Clara finally called for a lift.  The Cougars scored its first five points on Bronco hitting errors.  Timeout Santa Clara.  Out of the timeout BYU collected its sixth straight point on a team block.  Megan Anders got the Broncos their first point with a kill off the block, 6-1 BYU.  Trading points, Anders collected another kill in the back row.  BYU scored two on back row attacks and another three points on Bronco hitting errors, 12-3 BYU.  Timeout Santa Clara.   Durket's swing went wide to give BYU its sixth straight point.  Durket's next swing went off the block for a kill.  Knudsen's back-to-back kills made it 14-6.  The BYU dumped the ball for a sideout.  Knudsen's kill off the head of a BYU blocker made it 15-7 BYU.  A BYU kill followed a Bronco hitting error.  Knudsen scored between the blockers.  An ace by O'Hara made it 17-9 BYU.  BYU scored four straight to take a 21-9 lead.  Lexi Williamson's kill off the block followed a BYU kill.  22-10 BYU.  Trading points, BYU scored three straight to win set one 25-11.   Santa Clara hit -.147 with 10 kills (15e, 34 att.).   BYU hit .429 with nine kills (0e, 21 att.).  Knudsen hit four of five kills (.800).  Hamson had four kills for BYU.

BYU won set two 25-19.  Santa Clara took a 2-1 lead on a Douglas kill off the block – her first kill of the match.  A Cougar hitting error tied it up 3-3.  Six-foot-six Hamson swung cross court for a kill and then served up an ace.  A Cougar service error and a Lommori kill brought it within one point.  After two Cougar points, Durket scored on a cross court kill to the back row, 9-6 BYU.  Durket and Anders teamed up to block Christie Carpenter's attempt and then Douglas scored off the block to pull SCU within one, 9-8 BYU.  BYU scored five straight before SCU whistled for time.  Knudsen buried the ball for a kill to snap the run.  BYU scored two of three.  Lommori's kill made it 19-13 BYU.  The Broncos scored four of the next five points before Kathryn Lecheminant's attempt hit the Bronco floor.  Carpenters swat in the back row made it 22-17 BYU. Knudsen's kill off the block, her seventh of the match, made it 23-19.  Hamson's 12th kill of the match was followed by a kill by Carpenter to give set two to the Cougars.  Santa Clara hit .417 with 13 kills (3e, 24att.).  BYU hit .448 with 16 kills (3e, 29 att.).  Lommori, Durket and Knudsen all had three kills.  Hamson had eight.

BYU won set three 25-22.  Hamson started the third set with a back row kill.  Durket and Knudsen scored back-to-back off the block to make it 2-2.  BYU scored three straight but Knudsen's kill down the line stopped the rally.  Trading points, BYU went up 6-4.  BYU slapped it out for a Bronco sideout and then Williamson's cross-court kill tied it up 6-6.  Katie Vaughn punched it down the line for a kill but Durket got the ball back with a cross court kill and the match was tied 7-7.  Carpenter's swing was way out, 8-7 Broncos.  After a Bronco service error, Durket knocked a kill off the Cougar block.  A Cougar team block helped BYU sideout with the scored tied 9-9.  Durket's ball bounced off the three-man block of BYU for a kill and then she scored an ace to make it 11-9 Broncos.  Trading points, Knudsen's kill followed a hitting error by Lecheminant made it 13-10 SCU.  Knudsen scored her 11th kill in the middle.  Hamson answered in scoring two of the next three points on kills.  BYU tied it up 15-15 on a kill by Carpenter.  Durket's kill off the block gave the Broncos the lead again.  After BYU swung it wide, the Cougar coach whistled for time.  Knudsen and Anders teamed up for a block, 19-16 Broncos.  A dump by Hannemann gave the Cougars the sideout.  Back-to-back Bronco hitting errors tied it up 19-19.  Timeout Santa Clara.  Durket's attempt flew out and then Douglas' block solo vs. Hamson tied it up 20-20.  Trading points, Williamson's back-to-back hitting errors put BYU up 23-21.  Timeout Santa Clara.  Knudsen scored on her 12th kill of the match.  BYU got the sideout and then won the set and the match on a kill by Lecheminant.  Santa Clara hit .150 with 15 kills (9e, 40att.).  BYU hit .188 with 12 kills (6e, 32 att.).
