PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Santa Clara University women's water polo team earned a split Saturday on the first day of the Bruno Classic, hosted by Brown University at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Broncos defeated Siena, 12-9, in the afternoon after narrowly getting edged in the morning, 11-10, by Bucknell.

Six different Broncos scored goals in Santa Clara's first victory of the season, a 12-9 win over Siena in their second match of the day.

Chloe Morrison and Kate Rodman both scored three goals each. Harper Daniels and Elle Fredrickson scored two each, and Halley Seed and Lauren Voss both added one. Voss dished out two assists, as did Francesca Moynihan.

Liyara Senadheera earned the victory in goal with 10 saves.

Santa Clara actually trailed after the first period, 4-2. It'd even the game at 5-5 after outscoring Siena, 3-1, in the second. The Broncos then pulled away in the second half, scoring seven goals to the Saints' four.

vs. BUCKNELL

Lauren Baglietto scored four goals to lead Santa Clara against the Bison. Harper Daniels and Chloe Morrison had two each. Elle Fredrickson and Lauren Voss both scored one goal. Daniels added two steals and an assist, while Morrison chipped in one of each.

The Broncos led, 3-2, after the first period, but a 3-1 period for the Bison in the second gave them a slim, 5-4, halftime lead. Bucknell outscored Santa Clara, 4-3, in the third to lead 9-7 heading to the fourth. The Broncos had a 3-2 advantage in the final period, but couldn't get the final equalizer, falling by just one, 11-10.

Georgia Lewis made 16 stops in goal for Santa Clara and also had two steals.

Santa Clara wraps up play at the Bruno Classic on Saturday with two more neutral-site games. The day starts versus Long Island University, then concludes against St. Francis (Pa.).
