Women's Water Polo Battles Concordia on the Road

IRVINE, Calif. — The Santa Clara University women's water polo team hit the road Thursday for the first time in three weeks and battled with host Concordia, narrowly falling, 11-8, in a non-conference matchup at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

Lauren Baglietto and Elle Fredrickson both hit game-tying goals in the first period to close the opening frame tied, 2-2. The Eagles (6-7) scored three unanswered goals to start the second. Santa Clara came back with another goal from Frederickson and one from Harper Daniels, but Concordia led, 6-4, at halftime.

Kate Rodman tied the game up all on her own in the third, scoring two goals to make it 6-6. Frederickson later hit her third goal of the game to make it 7-7. Concordia closed the third period with two goals in the final 50 seconds to hold on to its two-goal lead at 9-7. The Concordia defense stepped it up in the fourth and only allowed one more goal while tacking on two insurance goals of its own to win, 11-8.

Frederickson led the Broncos with three goals while Rodman had two. Chloe Morrison, Daniels, and Baglietto had one each. Halley Seed added two assists, as did Maddie Clough. Liyara Senadheera made 10 saves in net for Santa Clara.

Kim Reidel, Andie Perreira, Madison Ravelo and Emily Tucker all scored two goals each for Concordia. Tatiana Cava made nine saves for the Eagles.

Santa Clara next stays in Souther California for the Claremont Convergence Tournament, where it'll play four games in two days on Friday and Saturday. Fans can find all live coverage links on SantaClaraBroncos.com.
