Santa Clara, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announced today that Santa Clara senior Sean Denison earned co-WCC Player of the Week honors along with Adoyah Miller of Loyola Marymount University. Denison helped the Broncos sweep to two important wins over the weekend, beating Saint Mary's 63-57 on Feb. 3 and San Francisco 74-62 on Feb. 5.
For the two games Denison averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting an amazing 12-for-17 from the field, a .706 field goal percentage. He scored 12 points against Saint Mary's on Feb. 3 in a battle for second place in Moraga and then followed that effort with his fourth double-double of the season against San Francisco on Feb. 5. He scored 18 points and had a career high 16 rebounds against the Dons in a win that earned the Broncos a share of first place in the conference.
Denison, a native of Nelson, British Columbia, now leads Santa Clara in scoring this season with a career best 11.0 points per game. He is also pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game for SCU, which is off to its best start at 17-7 since 1997-98. He leads the WCC in shooting at 61 percent for the year.
Santa Clara is now tied with Gonzaga for first place in the conference at 7-2. The Broncos travel to the Northwest this weekend to take on Portland and Gonzaga. SCU plays the Pilots at 7:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, Feb. 10 and then takes on the `Zags at 9:00 p.m. PT on Monday, Feb. 12. The game against Gonzaga will be televised live on ESPN2, while both games will be available on the radio on 1220 KNTS.
