Quotes - Santa Clara at Gonzaga

Recap |  Final Stats

Head coach Dick Davey, on team's play: "We have been playing pretty good basketball for a while, especially defensively. I am really proud of the focus that we had tonight. The guys did a great job and shot the ball very well."

Davey, on perimeter shooting: "We did a very good job of getting the ball to guys with open looks. Our big men passed the ball out and we penetrated a bit and kicked it out. The ball was really dropping for us tonight."

Davey, on breaking Gonzaga's 50-game home win streak: "I did not think about it too much before the game or during the game. We just wanted to get the win and keep working to get a one or two seed for the conference tournament. It was nice to break the streak though. I have a lot of respect for their program. They have beaten us a lot up here so it was good to get one."

Senior Scott Dougherty, on quick start: "We have been in that situation before with them and they have always come back. They came back again tonight, but we were able to hold them off."

Dougherty, on shooting: "Some nights you get it going and tonight was one of those nights. It is really nice when you can get it going for a big game like tonight. Everyone stepped up and made their shots."

Dougherty, on tying career high: "I have to credit the team for that. The way we move the ball and get the ball to the open shooter makes it easier for me. Brody (Angley) and Danny (Pariseau) also do a great job of finding people in the right spots."

Dougherty, on withstanding comeback: "They made a couple of runs, but guys made big shots when we needed them. In the past we didn't hit the shots to stem the tide, but tonight we did it. A lot of different guys made clutch plays down the stretch."

Junior Brody Angley, on winning at Gonzaga: "The coaches did a great job preparing us for the game up here. There was a lot on the line and we responded well. Also, we had to get one here for Danny (Pariseau)."

Angley, on win: "Our focus was there from the start. Everyone did what they needed to do. You have to give credit to Danny (Pariseau), Scott (Dougherty), Sean (Denison) and everyone on the team. Whether it was knocking down a 3-pointer or some free throws, everyone contributed."

Senior and Spokane native Danny Pariseau, on his play at the end of the game: "The game kind of felt like USF last week when we let them back into it. I wanted to make sure that we would be able to finish the job. We had a rough patch in the second half, but we turned it around and put it away."

Pariseau, on winning in Spokane: "I don't know how to describe it. Things fell perfectly into place tonight for the team and for me. When I left Eastern Washington and came to Santa Clara, I thought about winning up here and for that to happen is just incredible. I hope we can keep playing this way for the rest of the season."

Pariseau, on keys to win: "It seems like a cliche, but Coach Davey always says that we have to be tough-minded and that was the key tonight. This team has really taken on that mentality and we are kind of taking on the identity of Coach Davey. Last week, he told us that when we step up to the free throw line, you need to tell yourself to step up and make the free throws to help the team win. That really stuck in my mind and I think it stuck in a lot of guys' minds. Tonight, we played tough-minded basketball and stepped up to make the plays to help the team win."
