SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's basketball player Scott Dougherty was named to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team in recognition of his outstanding play on the basketball court and his academic success at Santa Clara. Dougherty led the Broncos in scoring in West Coast Conference games and was named an All-WCC First Team selection, while helping SCU post a 21-10 record. He also has a cumulative 3.59 GPA as a chemistry major.

Dougherty had a breakout senior season for the Broncos coming off a redshirt season in 2005-06. The Portland, Ore. native averaged 9.9 points per game and had a season high of 23 points against Gonzaga on Feb. 12 in Spokane to give the Bulldogs their first home loss in 50 games. In conference games, he led Santa Clara in scoring at 14.9 points per game, while making 41 three-pointers in conference play, just two fewer than Steve Nash's school record of 43. He finished second in the conference in three-pointers made and his .471 percentage from beyond the arc set a school record. His scoring average in conference games ranked sixth. Dougherty was also a member of the WCC All-Academic team. He scored 16 points in the WCC Championship against Gonzaga to earn a spot on the WCC All-Tournament team.

Dougherty is expected to graduate in June with degrees in chemistry and finance. He posted a 3.82 GPA in the winter quarter to raise his cumulative GPA to 3.59.

Teammate Mitch Henke earned honorable mention honors from the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association.
