Next Up for the Broncos
Santa Clara University begins play in the Cable Car Classic on Thursday, Dec. 28 against the Colgate University Raiders. The game tips off at 6:00 p.m. PT and will be followed by a game between George Washington and Air Force at approx. 8:15 p.m. PT. The Broncos and Red Raiders have never met in their history. Santa Clara will be looking for its fifth straight home win and their 10th win of the year. Fans can follow the game live at SantaClaraBroncos.com through Gametracker, live audio or live video.

Last Game for the Broncos
Santa Clara staged a late comeback to pull out a 77-75 overtime win over the Utah State Aggies on Dec. 23. The Broncos scored the last four points of regulation to tie the score and then took a six-point lead in overtime before winning by two. John Bryant had 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Danny Pariseau scored six points in overtime for the Broncos.

Head Coach Dick Davey
In his 15th season as the head coach at Santa Clara, Dick Davey has compiled a career record of 239-184 (112-84 WCC), which includes three 20-win seasons. Davey has also posted a 135-59 record at home for a .696 winning percentage. He owns the most WCC wins among active coaches and is the first Bronco coach to lead Santa Clara to four 10-plus win seasons in WCC play. A three-time conference Coach of the Year, Davey has coached Santa Clara to three regular season league titles, one WCC Tournament title, three NCAA Tournament appearances and five wins over top-25 teams. Davey served as a Bronco assistant for 15 seasons (1977-92) under former head coach and athletic director Carroll Williams and is a member of the prestigious Board of Directors for the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Bronco's 100th Season
2006-07 marks the 100th season of men's basketball at Santa Clara. The basketball team at Santa Clara first started in 1905 and became a varsity sport in 1917-18. In their 99 seasons, SCU has had seven All-Americans, 15 postseason appearances (11 NCAA, 4 NIT), three WCC Coaches of the Year, and one visit to the Final Four (1951-52). In 2006-07, the Broncos again face some of the top competition in the country as they attempt to earn their 16th postseason appearance.

SCU vs. Colgate
Series Record: First Meeting Notes: For the second straight year, a Patriot League team will play in the Cable Car Classic ... last season Bucknell reached the final, but lost 77-68 to the Broncos ... Santa Clara is 7-2 all-time against current members of the Patriot League ... after playing Colgate Thursday, SCU will have played six out of the eight members of the conference ... the two teams that the Broncos have not faced are Lafayette and Lehigh.

Scouting Colgate
The Colgate Raiders are 5-5 on the season after beating UC Riverside 59-56 on Dec. 21. The team has kept most games low-scoring, averaging 63.8 points per game while allowing just 62.4 points per game. Two players average in double-figures for the Raiders; Jon Simon (12.4) and Kendall Chones (10.6). Kendall's twin brother, Kyle, averages 7.2 points per game. The Raiders are led by Emmett Davis, who is in his ninth season at Colgate. He has a 115-122 record during his time there.

Cable Car Notes
Santa Clara has played in all 39 Cable Car Classics and posted a 45-33 record, while winning 14 tournament titles ... in the 2006 Cable Car, the Broncos will host three teams that they have never faced. SCU has never played Air Force, Colgate or George Washington in its basketball history ... Dick Davey has led Santa Clara to four Cable Car Classic titles, including last year ... Brody Angley made the Cable Car All-Tournament team last year, while Brandon Rohe made it in 2002 as a freshman ... for the second year in a row, the Patriot League will have a team in the Cable Car after Bucknell played last season ... the last Atlantic 10 team to play in the Cable Car was UNC-Charlotte (2004) , while the last Mountain West team was Brigham Young (2003) ... John Bryant set a career high with 17 rebounds against UC Riverside in the 2005 Cable Car.

Brothers in Cable Car
Santa Clara junior Mitch Henke and brother, Andrew, a sophomore at Air Force, will both be playing in this year's Cable Car Classic. Andrew appeared in 25 games as a freshman last year and has played in 11 out of the Falcons 12 games this year. Mitch is averaging 8.8 points per game for SCU, while Andrew scores 5.5 per game for Air Force. If both the Broncos and the Falcons win their first game, Mitch and Andrew will go head to head in the championship game on Dec. 29 at the Leavey Center.

Overtime
The Broncos played their first overtime game of the year against Utah State on Dec. 23. Last season, Santa Clara played three overtime games and lost them all, one to Mississippi State (82-69) and two to Saint Mary's (76-69 and 76-72). With the win, SCU is now 35-44 in overtime games in its history and 19-27 at home. Prior to the win against Utah State, the Broncos had lost five straight overtime games. Their last overtime win came on Dec. 22, 2003 against Maryland-Baltimore County, 65-63.

Shutting Down Big Scorers
Santa Clara has faced two of the top-10 scoring leaders in Division I this season in Rodney Stuckey and Jaycee Carroll. Both times, the Broncos have held them to their lowest scoring output of the season at the time. On Dec. 11, Stuckey managed only a season-low 12 points in the Broncos' 91-68 win over Eastern Washington. On Dec. 23, Carroll scored a season-low 14 points as SCU won 77-75 knocking him down to 12th in the country in scoring.

Tight Games
The Broncos have not played many close games so far in 2006-07. Prior to their two-point win over Utah State on Dec. 23, the closest game was an eight-point loss to Nevada on Nov. 25. The only other game that was decided by 10 points or less was a nine-point win on Nov. 29 against Hawai'i.

Bryant Comes Up Big
Sophomore center John Bryant had one of the best games of his career on Dec. 23 against Utah State. He matched his career high with 20 points while also pulling down a season-high 12 rebounds. He also scored the game-tying basket with six seconds left to send the game to overtime. In overtime, he scored four more points to help SCU to the win. Bryant now has three double-doubles this season.

Non-Conference Wins
The Broncos now have nine non-conference wins this season after beating Utah State on Dec. 23. Under Dick Davey, the team record for non-conference wins is nine, set five times (1994-95, 1995-6, 1997-98, 1999-00 and 2002-03). SCU needs one win in its two remaining non-conference games to reach 10 non-conference wins for the first time under Davey.

Dougherty Lights It Up
Scott Dougherty had an outstanding game against Utah State on Dec. 23, setting career highs in points (16), minutes (29) and three pointers (4), while tying his career high in field goal attempts (8). He is now averaging a career-best 4.9 points per game this season.

Home Cooking
Santa Clara has gotten off to good starts at the Leavey Center the past few years. Last year, the Broncos started out with four straight wins at home and in 2004-05 they won their first five at home. Three years ago, the team won five out of six at home to start the year. This season has been no different as SCU has won six out of seven so far at the Leavey Center. The Broncos have also won four straight at the Leavey Center.

Rebounding
The Broncos won for only the second time this year when being outrebounded on Dec. 23 against Utah State. For the season, SCU has outrebounded opponents in nine out of 13 games, while owning a plus-6.9 rebounding margin. The Broncos have grabbed more than 40 rebounds seven times this season and have outrebounded their foes 505-415 on the year.

Steals
Santa Clara reached double-digits in steals for the first time this season on Dec. 23 against Utah State with 11. The previous high was nine, set against Utah on Nov. 18. The Broncos also forced a season-high 19 turnovers against the Aggies on Dec. 23.

Henke On The Mark
Junior forward Mitch Henke has been on a roll of late, scoring in double figures in four out of the past five games. He had 14 points against Utah State on Dec. 23. He is now averaging 8.8 points per game this year.

Rankings
Santa Clara moved up to the 17th spot on Collegeinsider.com's mid-major top-25, which is based on voting by coaches around the country. Also, SCU has moved up to 45th in RPI in the Pomeroy Ratings.

Davey Recognized
Bronco head coach Dick Davey was named Collegeinsider.com's mid-major coach of the week for the week ending Dec. 17. The Broncos beat Eastern Washington and Stanford to help Davey earn the honor.

Pariseau Keeps It Going
From December 9-23, Broncos senior Danny Pariseau has set or tied career highs in points, rebounds, assists and steals. On Dec. 9, he scored a career-high 20 points at Pacific, before dishing out a career-high nine assists on Dec. 11 versus Eastern Washington. On Dec. 16 against Stanford, Pariseau led SCU with nine rebounds, setting another career high. Pariseau also scored 16 points, had four assists and made three steals to lead the team in four categories overall against Stanford. Pariseau finished the four-game stretch with 14 points on the road against Kentucky. He also made four steals against the Wildcats to tie his career high. After scoring 11 points against Utah State, Pariseau now leads the team in points (141) steals (19) and assists (56).

Defense Steps Up
For the season, opponents are now shooting only .394 against Santa Clara and scoring 63.2 points per game. Santa Clara has now held five of its past nine opponents to under 40 percent from the floor. Three of those opponents shot under 30 percent from the floor.

Raining Threes
Santa Clara set a team high by launching 24 three-point shots against Kentucky on Dec. 19. The previous record for attempts this year was 23, set against Eastern Washington on Dec. 11.

VS. WAC Opponents
The Broncos played four Western Athletic Conference opponents this year and finished with a 3-1 record against them, beating San Jose State, Hawai'i and Utah State while losing to the Nevada Wolfpack. Against the eight current members of the WAC, SCU has earned a 154-71 record.

Biggest Crowd
Santa Clara and Kentucky played in front of 21,961 fans on Dec. 19. That crowd is the largest crowd that Santa Clara has ever played in front of for a regular season game. The previous record was 20,225, set on Dec. 17, 2005 at the Dean E. Smith Center against the University of North Carolina.

Beating Stanford
The Broncos' win over Stanford was their second straight against the Cardinal after beating them 86-76 in 2004-05. The 16-point margin of victory was the biggest since Jan. 26, 1957 when SCU defeated Stanford 77-61. The margin of victory was the second largest ever for Santa Clara at Stanford. Prior to the win in 2004-05, SCU had lost eight straight to Stanford. Also, Santa Clara had not beaten a Pac-10 opponent on the road since Nov. 29, 1997 when Dick Davey's squad beat Oregon 67-58. SCU had not beaten Stanford on the road since a 72-71 win on Dec. 1, 1987.

Home and Away
The Broncos started the season with a stretch of five out of six games at home, including three home games in five days that began Nov. 25 against Nevada. SCU just completed a stretch of five out of six on the road. Now, the Broncos are in the midst of six straight games at the Leavey Cener. Last season, SCU also played six straight home games at this time of the year and posted a 4-2 record in that stretch.

Big Men Shooting The Ball
Santa Clara boasts three players 6-10 or taller in John Bryant, Sean Denison and Josh Higgins. All three have started the season shooting the ball extremely well. The trio has combined to shoot 55 percent from the floor through 13 games. Denison leads the way as he has hit 57 percent of his shots this year.

WCC Leaders
Individually and as a team, Santa Clara currently ranks among the best in the West Coast Conference in a number of statistical categories. As a team, SCU is first in scoring defense (63.2), first in rebounding margin (+6.9) and first in offensive rebounds (14.2) and second in assists (15.7) and field goal percentage defense (.394). Sean Denison is second in the conference in field goal percentage at .571, while John Bryant (.523) is also in the top-10. Bryant is sixth in rebounding at 7.2 per game and fourth in blocks at 1.62 per game. Danny Pariseau and Brody Angley are second and third in assists at 4.31 and 4.08 respectively. Pariseau is first in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.00.

Beating Pacific In Stockton
Santa Clara pulled away to an 18-point win over Pacific on the Tigers home court on Dec. 9. It was the Broncos first road win of the season after dropping their first two road games. The margin of victory was the largest by a visiting team over the Tigers since Jan. 16, 1992 when UNLV beat Pacific 70-52. In non-conference games since 1989, Pacific had a 65-13 home record prior to the game against SCU. Also, Pacific had a 123-27 record in the last 10 seasons at home.

Big Second Halves
Santa Clara has had some big second half performances this year. Against Pacific on Dec. 9, Santa Clara withstood an early run in the second half before outscoring the Tigers 16-1 to blow open the game and cruise to an 18-point win. SCU shot 54 percent in the second half to turn a close game into a rout. The Broncos repeated their second half success Dec. 11 against against Eastern Washington. SCU scored on eight of its first nine possessions in the second half to turn a one-point lead into a 12-point advantage. Santa Clara went on to hit 56 percent of its shots in the second half to pull away to a 23-point win over the Eagles. Santa Clara also started slowly on Dec. 1 against Alabama State shooting 11-33 in the first half. However, Dick Davey's squad turned it around in the second half, shooting 76 percent after intermission (16-21) to turn a seven-point halftime lead into a 26-point victory.

Backcourt Combo
Senior Danny Pariseau and junior Brody Angley have proven to be a dangerous combination in the backcourt together. For the season, they are combining for 18.6 points, 8.4 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game from the guard spots. The pair has also combined for 37 steals on the season.

Angley Aims For Top 10
Junior point guard Brody Angley has 53 assists on the season, giving him 276 career assists and leaving him less than 50 assists away from cracking the Broncos all-time top 10 in that category. He needs 33 assists to pass Chris Lane (1984-88) and move into 10th all time.
