Next Up for the Broncos
The Santa Clara Broncos host the San Diego Toreros on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7:00 p.m. PT at the Leavey Center. Saturday is Senior Night as the Broncos will honor six seniors before the game. Also, the game will mark Dick Davey's final game as head coach of the Broncos at home. SCU enters the game in first place in the WCC, needing just one win to clinch one of the top two seeds in the conference tournament. The Broncos earned a 61-47 win in the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 20 in San Diego.

Last Game for the Broncos
Santa Clara traveled to Spokane and ended Gonzaga's 50-game home winning streak with an 84-73 win at the McCarthey Center. The Broncos got out to a 13-0 lead and never trailed in the game. Scott Dougherty shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and tied his career high with 23 points, while Brody Angley had a season high 18 points. Spokane native Danny Pariseau scored 14 points and dished out six assists in his return to his hometown. The win put SCU in first in the WCC.

Head Coach Dick Davey
In his 15th season as the head coach at Santa Clara, Dick Davey has compiled a career record of 249-187 (121-85 WCC), which includes three 20-win seasons. Davey has also posted a 140-62 record at home for a .693 winning percentage. He owns the most WCC wins among active coaches and is the first Bronco coach to lead Santa Clara to four 10-plus win seasons in WCC play. A three-time conference Coach of the Year, Davey has coached Santa Clara to three regular season league titles, one WCC Tournament title, three NCAA Tournament appearances and five wins over top-25 teams. Davey served as a Bronco assistant for 15 seasons (1977-92) under former head coach and athletic director Carroll Williams and is a member of the restigious Board of Directors for the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Bronco's 100th Season
2006-07 marks the 100th season of men's basketball at Santa Clara. The basketball team at Santa Clara first started in 1905 and became a varsity sport in 1917-18. In their 99 seasons, SCU has had seven All-Americans, 15 postseason appearances (11 NCAA, 4 NIT), three WCC Coaches of the Year, and one visit to the Final Four (1951-52). In 2006-07, the Broncos again face some of the top competition in the country as they attempt to earn their 16th postseason appearance. To celebrate 100 seasons of basketball, the Broncos are hanging a number of former Bronco's jerseys in the rafters of the Leavey Center this year. Bob Feerick had his No. 5 put in rafters on Jan. 6, alongside Steve Nash's No. 11, which was hung on Sept. 18 at the Santa Clara Convocation. Joining Feerick and Nash this season were Ken Sears (Jan. 27), Nick Vanos (Jan. 29), Dennis Awtrey (Feb. 5) and Bud Ogden (Feb. 5). Kurt Rambis' No. 34 will be raised in a future season as his duties as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers did not allow him time to come back this year.

Senior Night
Saturday night is Senior Night at the Leavey Center. The Santa Clara men's basketball team will honor Sean Denison, Scott Dougherty, Joey Kaempf, Tristan Parham, Danny Pariseau and Brandon Rohe for their contributions to the program. The six seniors will be honored on the court with their families prior to the game.

Davey's Last Home Game
Santa Clara head coach Dick Davey will coach his final home game for the Broncos on Saturday night against San Diego. Davey announced his retirement following the season on Feb. 1. At Davey's request Saturday will not feature a special presentation because the focus of the night is Senior Night. Davey, who has spent 30 years at SCU, was recognized at the President's State of the University address on Feb. 13. The event was attended by students, faculty and staff. Also, the school will host an appreciation dinner for Davey at a to-be-determined date this spring.

Scouting San Diego
San Diego has had an up and down run in the conference season and are currently 5-6 in the WCC. The Toreros won their first two games of the conference season but have not won more than two straight since then. USD has been strong on the road in conference with a 4-2 record, but has struggled at home going 1-4. Head coach Brad Holland's team boasts four players that average in double figures, led by Gyno Pomare at 15.4 points per game. Senior Ross DeRogatis avereages 15.1.

Last Game Versus San Diego
Trailing by eight at halftime at San Diego, Santa Clara played a nearly perfect second half, outscoring the Toreros 38-16 to pull away for a 61-47 win. SCU held San Diego to 2-for-22 from the floor in the second half to earn an important road win. Sean Denison was the only Bronco in double figures with 16 points and seven rebounds, while John Bryant grabbed a season high 15 rebounds, while scoring eight points. SCU dominated inside, holding a 24-12 edge in points in the paint.

Shooting
Through 26 games the 2006-07 Broncos are the best shooting team under Dick Davey in his 15 years at Santa Clara. The Broncos are shooting .464 from the field and .365 from 3-point range. The next best shooting team under Davey was the 1994-95 team that shot .441 from the field and .390 from 3-point range.

Steak Busters
Santa Clara snapped Gonzaga's 50-game home court winning streak with its 84-73 win on Feb. 12. Gonzaga also had a 56-game winning streak in Spokane that included games played at the Spokane Arena.

Holding Zags Down
SCU held Gonzaga to its worst shooting night of the season on Feb. 12. The Zags shot just 38 percent from the field in the game, including 30 percent in the first half and only 30 percent from beyond the arc.

Big Night At The Line
Going into the game against Gonzaga on Feb. 12, Santa Clara was shooting 64 percent from the free throw line as a team and the season high for free throws made was 19. Against Gonzaga, the Broncos had a big night at the line, converting 25-of-29 at the stripe, setting a season high for makes and attempts. The Broncos shot 86 percent from the line.

Last Win at Gonzaga
Santa Clara had not won at Gonzaga since Feb. 24, 1996 prior to its 84-73 win on Feb. 12. The Broncos had lost 10 straight games in Spokane to the Zags. Overall, SCU snapped a 13-game losing streak to Gonzaga with the win. The last win against Gonzaga came on Feb. 22, 2001.

Hitting Threes
Santa Clara shot 11-for-18 against Gonzaga from beyond the arc, the team's best 3-point shooting performance of the season. The Broncos hit 61 percent, surpassing the 11-for-19 performance on Jan. 27 against LMU.

Dougherty Perfect
Senior Scott Dougherty shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the field against Gonzaga on Feb. 12 and tied his career high with 23 points in the win. He is now averaging a team-leading 14.2 points per game during the conference season.

High Scoring
Santa Clara scored 84 points against Gonzaga, the team's second highest output of the season. SCU scored 91 against Eastern Washington on Dec. 11 at the Leavey Center.

Pariseau Player of the Week
Santa Clara University men's basketball player Danny Pariseau was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week this week for his strong performances over the weekend in wins against Portland and Gonzaga. Pariseau becomes the second straight player to earn the honor as Sean Denison was recognized last week. Pariseau was instrumental in guiding the Broncos to their wins over the Pilots and the Bulldogs, averaging 14.0 points per game, while handing out 5.5 assists per game. The 5-10 guard was extremely efficient from the field, connecting on 66.7 percent of his shots from the field (10-for-15), including 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, while committing just three turnovers in 59 minutes of action.

Nearing Records
Two Bronco seniors are close to some team and league records this year. Scott Dougherty is shooting 32-for-66 from beyond the arc in conference, a .485 percent clip. The Santa Clara record for three-pointers in a conference season is 43, held by Steve Nash '96, while Marlon Garnett '97 holds the record for three-point field goal percentage in conference at .455. Sean Denison has rarely missed from the field this season. Overall, he is shooting .603 from the field. The school record for a single season is .647 set by Mike Stewart in 1971-72. For the conference season, Denison is shooting .672, just percentage points behind Stewart's .675 in 1972. The league record is .713, set in 1989, by Craig Cottrell (USD) and Jumoke Horton (SMC).

Hot Streak
Santa Clara has won five straight games and eight out of nine, following the team's win over Gonzaga on Feb. 12.

5-0 On The Road In Conference
Santa Clara is now 5-0 in road conference games after beating Portland 76-53 on Feb. 10 and Gonzaga 84-73 on Feb. 12. The Broncos last started 5-0 on the road in conference in the 1984-85 season. They started that year 5-0 and finished 5-1 in road conference games.

In The Paint
The Broncos dominated the inside on Feb. 10 against Portland. SCU outscored the Pilots 30-12 in the paint, led by John Bryant's 15 points.

Three Sweeps
Santa Clara swept the season series from Portland by beating the Pilots 76-53 on Feb. 10. SCU has now swept three WCC teams this season, marking the first time since 2000-01 that the Broncos have swept three conference foes in a season. In both years, SCU swept Portland, USF and Saint Mary's. In 2000-01, the Broncos also swept Loyola Marymount. The Broncos have two more chances to sweep teams this season, Feb. 17 against San Diego and Feb. 26 against Pepperdine.

Best Start Since 1995-96
The Broncos are off to their best start (19-7) since the 1995-96 season when the team posted an 19-7 record through 26 games.

Davey To Retire
Head men's basketball coach Dick Davey announced on Feb. 1 that he is retiring as head coach at the end of the season. Davey has been at Santa Clara since 1977, spending 15 years as an assistant before becoming head coach in 1992. He is the second winningest coach in SCU history (249) and is second all-time in career WCC wins (121).

Conference Start
Santa Clara is now 9-2 in conference play this season, surpassing last season's five conference wins. Also, the 9-2 start is the best start by the Broncos since opening WCC play 10-1 in 1994-95. The Broncos have not had nine conference wins since 2000-01 when they finished the season 10-4 in the WCC.

Angley Coming On
After going four games without scoring in double figures, Bronco point guard Brody Angley has turned around his game. He has now had six straight games scoring in double figures, including a season high 18 points against Gonzaga on Feb. 12.

Sweep
Santa Clara swept the season series against Saint Mary's by winning 63-57 on Feb. 3. SCU has now swept six out of the past eight season series against the Gaels. The Broncos then beat San Francisco on Feb. 5 to sweep that series for the first time since the 2000-01 season. It is also the first time since 2000-01 that SCU has swept both Saint Mary's and USF in the same season. Overall, the Broncos finished 7-1 against the Bay Area colleges, California, Stanford, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State and Pacific. The only loss came against Cal on Nov. 20.

Conference Only Stats
In conference games, Scott Dougherty leads the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game, while making a conference leading 32 3-pointers in those 11 conference games. Sean Denison leading the conference with an amazing 67 field goal percentage in conference games and he is also second in the league in rebounds at 7.6 per game. Danny Pariseau's assists are at 5.36 a game in conference, good for second in the league. The team has held opponents to 60.5 points per game on .378 percent shooting, both first in the conference.

Six In Double Figures
Santa Clara beat Pepperdine with a complete team effort on Jan. 29 as six Broncos scored in double figures. Scott Dougherty led the way with 14 points, but he was joined in double figures by Brody Angley (12), Joey Kaempf (11), John Bryant (10), Sean Denison (10) and Danny Pariseau (10). It was the first time since Feb. 25, 2006 against Loyola Marymount that the Broncos had more than five players in double figures. The last time SCU had six players in double figures was Nov. 25, 2002 against UC Santa Cruz at the Leavey Center.

Angley In Top 10
Junior point guard Brody Angley has 96 assists on the season, giving him 319 career assists. He is now in ninth all-time at SCU after passing Chris Lane (1984-88) and Mitch Burley (1985-89).

NCAA Leaders
Through Feb. 11, 2007, Santa Clara was among the nation's leaders in three statistical categories. The Broncos were 36th in scoring defense, allowing 61.2 points per game (now 61.7). The team was 16th in field goal percentage defense at .394 (now .393). The Broncos were also 34th in rebound margin at plus-5.7 (now 5.5) per game.
