SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
The Santa Clara University men's golf team is down in Southern California this weekend, playing at the picturesque Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Broncos, are led by juniors Scott Lowe (Calgary, Alberta Canada / Edge School) and Bobby Monaco (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and have one of the nation's top collection of freshmen, SCU will be looking to build some early-season momentum when the 2013 Desert Intercollegiate begins Friday morning.

Lowe was recently named an All-West Coast Conference preseason player by the league's coaches and true freshman Martin Keskari (Frankfurt, Germany / Carl-Schurz-Schule) nearly won the 2013 The Farms Collegiate Invitational in San Diego two weeks ago, finishing second - just one shot off the lead among a strong 68-man national field.

"Everyone is working really hard," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller, who has brought his two juniors, Keskari, and freshmen Drew Miller (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Chaminade College Prep) and Gio Gandionco (Cebu City, Philippines / Paref Springdale School) to the event this weekend.

"This tournament has a large, 17-team field, featuring eight teams ranked in the top 65 nationally. We are bringing the same guys down here we played with last week. Our juniors have some experience playing here and we will do our best to knock off a few of those big boys and move up in the rankings."

The spring season is starting to heat up. West Coast Conference opponents No. 23 St. Mary's and No. 74 San Francisco are in the same field with SCU once again week. The Broncos out-played USF in San Diego two weeks ago and Miller is hoping his young group can close the gap with SMC as the spring season unfolds.
