Men’s Golf to compete in Bandon Dunes Championship

The Santa Clara men's golf team heads to Oregon to compete in the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by Gonzaga University March 8-10 at the Old Macdonald Course on the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. The par-71, 6,902-yard course is ranked No. 4 in Golfweek's 2013 Best Resort Courses.

The championship field includes 18 teams of five players plus three individuals for a tournament field of 93 players. Play will consist of 54 holes, contested over three days, beginning Fri., March 8 and ending Sun., March 10. Team scoring will consist of counting the four best scores of each five-man team.

Teams participating in the tournament with their Golfweek ranking include: Colorado (83), Fresno State (82), Gonzaga (138), Long Beach State (78), Northern Colorado (148), Cal State Northridge (224), Oregon (49), University of the Pacific (67), San Jose State (89), Southern Methodist (14), UC Davis (62), UCLA (6), UMKC (120), UNC Wilmington (98), Utah Valley (157), Washington State (57) and Washington (4). Santa Clara, ranked No. 118 by Golfweek, begins a stretch of three tournaments in a month before competing in the West Coast Conference Championships on April 15-17. The Broncos will compete in the UC Irvine Anteater Invitational (March 25-26) and the University of Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 8-9) before the conference championships in Bremerton, Wash.

The Broncos are coming off a 14th place finish in its last tournament, the 2013 Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. on Feb. 22-24. Freshman Martin Keskari (Frankfurt, Germany) led the Santa Clara men with a 5-over 221 three-round total. He posted identical rounds of 1-over 73 the last two days and was SCU's top individual finisher tied for 26th. Freshmen Gio Gandionco (Cebu City, Philippines) shot 78-77-75 and Drew Miller (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) went 74-79-77.
