Santa Clara to Play Preseason WAC Favorites Friday Night

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – As part of a soccer doubleheader at Stevens Stadium Friday night, Santa Clara hosts Seattle at 7:30 p.m. The Bronco women play Oklahoma at 5 p.m.

The Broncos' seven-game September homestand enters its second weekend. The group looks to shake off a tough loss to Cal State Fullerton  – a game in which they led in the second half. Holding on for the win would have no-doubt given Santa Clara (1-3-0) considerable momentum following a dramatic overtime win over Wisconsin in their home debut.

"To let the (Fullerton) game slip comes down to us, and to fix it will be the same," said SCU head coach Cameron Rast. "In both weekend games we were up. That should be enough. I have to say my frustration was more at the result than the performance. You cannot fault the attitude, or the commitment, or our desire to win the game."

The loss overshadowed an amazing goal by Carlos Delgadillo. His overhead volley earned the No. 1 spot on 'Top Play Tuesday' a highlight reel put together by TheW.tv. It just may stand to be the top soccer highlight of the year.

On Friday against Wisconsin, it was freshman Keanu Mendoza setting off a celebration in overtime when he powered-home a long feed from Delgadillo just seconds into the extra session.

Seattle (2-2-0) was nationally-ranked in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll last year and was picked to win the 2015 WAC title in the league's preseason coaches' poll.  Kyle Bjornethun was named 'WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year' while Hamza Haddadi and Shane Haworth also joined Bjornethun on the WAC Preseason All-Conference team.

Cal Poly (2-0-1) comes in to play SCU on Sunday night – also part of a women's and men's soccer doubleheader of sorts. The SCU women host Penn State Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Both men's games this weekend are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live. Fans can purchase tickets online or contact the SCU ticket office by calling (408) 554-4660.
