Streaking Broncos Go on the Road to Face the 9th-Ranked Zips

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Winners of two straight and four of five, Santa Clara's men's soccer team will play No. 9 Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. (PT).

A free video broadcast of the match will be available on GoZips.com.

Santa Clara (5-5-0) comes in with an RPI of No. 32, due in large part to the team's tough non-conference schedule. The Broncos have gone on the road to face No. 2 North Carolina and No. 6 Wake Forest. Factoring in an exhibition at No. 3 Stanford, Tuesday's match will be the fourth time SCU has faced a top-10 opponent on the road this season.

SCU is one week removed from knocking off No. 20 Cal, and this past Thursday shutout San Jose State 1-0 on the road. The Broncos have now won four of their last five, dating back to its 1-0 victory over Cal Poly on Sept. 13.

Akron (7-2-1) is a legitimate soccer powerhouse, winning 17 MAC titles and making 29 NCAA tournament appearances. Akron has an amazing 110-12-6 all-time record against the MAC. Tuesday's match will be the second-ever meeting between Akron and Santa Clara (on a neutral field in 1992 SCU won 4-2).

The Broncos are anchored by senior Kendall McIntosh, who represented the U.S. on the U-20 Men's National Team. Sophomore forward Carlos Delgadillo leads the team in most every offensive statistical category. Thursday against San Jose State, it was the freshmen combination of Keanu Mendoza and Jonathan Jarrett providing the winning goal for SCU off a corner kick.

Tuesday's match marks the last non-conference game for both programs. Santa Clara will host its storied soccer rival San Francisco (2-9-0) Sunday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.  The Dons were the preseason favorites to win the WCC, but are mired in a 7-game losing streak.
