Seven Men's Soccer Players Honored by WCC; Rast Named Coach of the Year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After clinching the 12th West Coast Conference title in program history, Santa Clara men's soccer had seven players and its head coach honored in the postseason WCC awards. Head coach Cameron Rast was named WCC Coach of the Year for the fifth time (2003, 3006, 2007, 2010).  Kendall McIntosh was named co-Goalkeeper of the Year and Luis Urias was Freshman of the Year. Carlos Delgadillo and Valdemar Andersen were all-WCC first team, McIntosh and Max Ornstil were named all-WCC second team, Parker Holland and Urias were named honorable mention, and Urias and Matt Sipowicz were on the all-freshman team.

"We're really proud of the players that were recognized by the coaches in the conference for their performances," said Rast. "Each of the players contributed to the championship in their own way. Kendall [McIntosh] is our captain and came up big when we needed him to. Luis [Urias] made a big impact on our team when he got his chance. He and Valdemar [Anderson] formed a great partnership on our back line. Carlos [Delgadillo] was our best offensive performer. Max [Ornstil] and Pakrer [Holland] were warriors for us this year."

McIntosh played every minute in net for the Broncos. He allowed 20 goals for a 1.09 GAA and made 59 saves for a .747 save percentage. McIntosh and the Bronco defense collected five shutouts on the season.

Urias and Andersen formed a tremendous partnership in the back line for Santa Clara. The duo allowed the Broncos to break down opponents and posses the ball. They were able to open the game and bring opponents forward. Each player picked up one assist.

Delgadillo led Santa Clara with nine goals and 21 points. He also led the Broncos with five game-winning goals. In the final match of the regular season, Delgadillo scored two goals to lead the Broncos past San Diego 3-0 on the way to the WCC title.

Ornstil scored a pair of goals on the season while starting all 18 games. He was a crucial park of the Bronco attack on offense and in the defending third of the field.

Holland had one goal and one assist on the season. His goal was one of the biggest of the year for Santa Clara in overtime at Portland when he won a ball and dribbled into the box before sending a curling shot the far post for the winner.

Sipowicz appeared in nine games for the Broncos and made four starts.

"I'm honored to be the WCC coach of the year," said Rast. "We have a great set of coaches in the conference that have been in World Cups and coached at the highest level. It's very humbling to be selected by them."
