SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer fell to Seattle by a final of 1-0 on Friday night. The loss puts the Broncos at 1-4-0 on the season while the Redhawks are 3-2-0.

Santa Clara returns to the field Sun., Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. vs. Cal Poly.

"For a good majority of the first half we did what we wanted," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "We put on some good pressure and had some good looks. Credit to them for hanging in there because I thought we were really on our front foot at the end of that first half. In the second half they came at us and we had to battle to stay on top. The quality of our play waned a little bit in the second half and it ended up costing us. The effort of the guys is good. It's just a matter of being able to find that moment."

Santa Clara was outshot by Seattle 7-6 and shots on goal were 1-1. Max Ornstil led the Bronco offense with two shots and one on goal.

The Broncos had a few chances to score in the first half but were only able to get one shot on goal. They had two attempts go over the cross bar and multiple loose balls in front of the goal they couldn't put in.

Santa Clara and Seattle were even 4-4 on shots in the first half and shots on goal were 1-0 in favor of Santa Clara.

In the 60th minute Santa Clara had a golden chance to break through. Ornstil got the ball inside the box and had a clear path for a shot but he hit it off the cross bar to keep the game scoreless.

In the 70th minute Seattle returned the favor and hit the post on a clear shot in the box.

Kyle Bjornethun put the Redhawks on top in the 73rd minute. He got the ball near the six-yard box and on the left side of the goal. He shot to the far post and past the keeper to make it 1-0.
