Bronco Soccer Comes Up Clutch, Beating LMU 2-1 in OT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Six minutes into overtime, Yoshi Chaffin (pictured) and Carlos Delgadillo connected for the golden goal to give Santa Clara men's soccer a 2-1 victory over LMU.

It's the third straight win for Santa Clara (9-7-1; 4-1-1 WCC), a team that needed the victory to set up a chance to play for the West Coast Conference title next Saturday at home against San Diego.

"Going into a game like this, that you know you have to win to have any chance (at the NCAAs), it feels like a playoff game," said SCU head coach Cameron Rast. "It gives you that playoff feel; that's what this game felt like to us."

Delgadillo had stolen an inbounds pass to set up Dylan Autran for the game's first goal midway through the second half. His one-touch goal courtesy of Chaffin's short cross was the decider in extra time.

The loss spoiled 'Senior Day' for LMU (8-9-0, 3-3-0 WCC), who had tied the game with 10 minutes left on sophomore Cruz Corral's third goal of the season.

"The challenge was to be patient enough to wait for our chances (after LMU scored)," said Rast. "They scored a real quality goal. (Corral) is a very dangerous player and a guy we'll have to deal with down the road as well."

"But we didn't give anything easy away, we played for our moments. I think we played really well in that five or six minutes of overtime, and eventually broke them down."

SCU will now be pulling for LMU to either win or tie at USF next Saturday. If that happens, and the Broncos defeat league-leading San Diego, Santa Clara will claim the WCC crown and a berth into the NCAA's.
