Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball: John Cresto

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Today, Bronco baseball announces the second member of its incoming class of freshmen for 2015-16, John Cresto. The infielder currently attends Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif.

"I chose Santa Clara because of its baseball coaching staff and their work ethic, as well as the great academics, beautiful campus and reputation," Cresto said.

In 2014, Cresto and the Cathedral Catholic Dons posted a 25-7 record and went 10-2 to win the Eastern League. The Dons defeated Vista High School in the highly-competitive CIFSDS Open Division Playoffs and finished the season ranked No. 9 in California, according to MaxPreps. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect is a three-sport athlete, also playing basketball and football for the Dons.

"John comes from a great family and great program in Cathedral Catholic," assistant coach Keith Beauregard said. "He has an incredibly high ceiling. In terms of character he's an instant fit; he really believes in the core values of the program. John defines what it means to be a Bronco, and we're excited to have him join the team."

Cresto is the younger brother of current Santa Clara volleyball sophomore GiGi Cresto. He serves as an instructor for a Catholic baseball camp and has participated in the Outreach For Nazareth Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico. His career goals include playing professional baseball and he enjoys playing the guitar, beach volleyball and spear fishing in his free time.

Next week's new Bronco is Travis Howard.
