Meet the Future of Bronco Baseball – Mark Ready

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball announced the seventh member of its incoming recruiting class for the 2017-18 season, Mark Ready. The third baseman currently attends Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, Texas.

"I chose Santa Clara because it is where I view best that I will be able to further my athletic and academic accomplishment," Ready said. "I want to be a part of the Santa Clara brotherhood because it can make me a better person, and form me into the person that I would like to become."

Ready has a rich family history in baseball. His father, Randy Ready, is currently a manager in the Miami Marlins organization. He played for six teams in the major leagues over his 13-year career. Ready has now been coaching in the minor and major leagues since 2004.

Ready, a 5-11, 180 pound third baseman, has claimed back-to-back UIL 6A Texas State Championships. He earned all-district honors in his junior and was named to the State Tournament All-Tournament team. He posted a batting average of .421, hit two home runs, drove in 25 runs and stole 10 bases.

"Mark is a big time player from a big time program at Dallas Jesuit," associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Gabe Ribas said. "We are very fortunate to get a player of Mark's pedigree in our program. He has the ability to play just about anywhere on the field defensively and brings a winning mentality every day. When we saw him play and did our background research on him, we quickly realized that he was the kind of player that we need more of in this program."

Ready is also active off the field as a member of the Commit! program that helps drive student achievement in Dallas. He is also involved in Buddy Walk, an organization that helps people with down syndrome. Ready is a member of the National Junior Honor Society as well.

"Not only does Santa Clara represent a great baseball program but it also makes me feel like I am at home even when I am very far from my friends and family," Ready said. "Santa Clara was most intriguing to me when I met the coaching staff."

Ready found great success with his club team as well. His Dallas Tigers squad won the Perfect Game Top 25 World Series Championship and he earned all-tournament team honors on three occasions.

"Beyond just being a very good athlete, Mark is the kind of guy that has a knack for the big moment in games and is willing to do anything for his team," Ribas said. "Mark is the exact type of guy that we think of when we talk about being a great Bronco! There is no doubt that he will do special things both on the field and on the Mission Campus."

Our next future Bronco, Eric Madrid, will be announced on Jan. 9.
