SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball clinched a series win over Pacific on Saturday night as senior Jacob Steffens threw a complete game to lead SCU to a 7-2 victory. SCU will go for the series sweep on Sunday as the Broncos will honor their seniors prior to the game.

In his final start at Stephen Schott Stadium, Steffens led Santa Clara (13-35, 9-14) to its second straight victory over Pacific (16-32, 4-19) as he threw 108 pitches in nine innings and allowed just eight hits and two earned runs while striking out nine batters. It is the fourth complete-game victory Steffens has earned this season.

After a drawing a walk to begin the game, Pacific took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double by James Free.

Santa Clara struck for three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Junior catcher Lucas Eliason's two-out double drove in two runs and then sophomore third baseman John Cresto singled to score Eliason from second base.

Pacific pulled a run back in the fifth inning when Kevin Sandri hit a two-out double to drive in a run.

Freshman center fielder Andre Nnebe drove in Eliason with another two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning and put SCU up 4-2. SCU added two runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth to the end the game's scoring.
