Santa Clara Baseball Drills Gonzaga 15-3

SPOKANE, Wash. - Santa Clara University erupted for 12 runs in the fifth inning and went on to enjoy a comfortable 15-3 Friday night win over Gonzaga University at Patterson Complex. Tommy Medica and Geoff Klein combined for six hits and five RBI. Both doubled during SCU's big fifth inning.

Santa Clara (16-23; 2-10 WCC) scored as many runs Friday night than they had in their first six WCC games combined. Nate Garcia struck out nine in 7-plus innings before Jason Westerberg came on in the eighth to close it out.

Gonzaga (14-29-1; 2-7-1 WCC) starter Cody Martin was charged with 12 of the 15 runs GU allowed. Martin allowed 14 hits before Medica ended his night with an RBI-double to right field in the fifth.

Freshman twin brothers Matt and Drew Ozanne both had a season-high three hits. Ryan Reiger drove in a pair on an RBI-double off Martin in the fifth. The Broncos totaled 19 hits.

The three-game series resumes Saturday at 1 p.m.
