Santa Clara Baseball Hosts Stanford Tonight at 6 p.m.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Seperated by just 17 miles, Stanford University and Santa Clara University will play a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at SCU's Stephen Schott Stadium in Santa Clara. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

SANTA CLARA
The Broncos are coming off back-to-back rain-outs, unable to play the final game of their three-game series with Pepperdine, which was scheduled for Sunday. SCU boasts an explosive offense, hitting .327 which is best in the WCC. UT Tommy Medica (.395 BA), C Geoff Klein (.356 BA) and 1B Curtis Wagner (.407 BA) hit in the heart of Santa Clara's batting order. All three are in the midst of execptional collegiate careers. Medica and Klein have both been honored as All-Americans. Wagner not only leads the WCC in hitting but was a unanimous pick for the WCC All-Academic Team last spring. The Broncos have a tough test ahead of them this weekend, traveling to play league-leading and preseason WCC favorite's San Diego on the road.

STANFORD
Stanford will head out on the road for four games, playing at Santa Clara on Tuesday before traveling to No. 14-ranked Oregon State (20-7, 3-3 Pac-10). Stanford snapped a season-long five-game losing skid on Saturday by salvaging the final game of the three-game series with the Ducks, 2-1. The Cardinal, after a 12-6 start, have lost seven of nine. The Cardinal, which had averaged nearly nine runs a game over the fi rst four weekends, have not hit double digits since March 21 as the team's batting average is down to .280. Stanford returns home to host the Broncos (April 20) and Cal (April 23-25) next week.

SANTA CLARA's ALEX RIVERS NAMED WCC 'PITCHER OF WEEK'
The West Coast Conference named Santa Clara University senior Alex Rivers `Pitcher of the Week' for April 5 through 11. Rivers threw a three-hit complete game shutout against Pepperdine Saturday night. He fanned nine, faced just five over the minimum and retired 10-straight at one point. The performance was important for SCU, allowing the Broncos to avoid an 0-5 start in WCC play. Rivers improved to 3-4 and lowered his season ERA to 4.02. It was his second complete game shutout of the year. It marks the second 'Pitcher of the Week' award for Rivers during his outstanding career at Santa Clara. A 2006 graduate of Tokay High School in Lodi, California, Rivers was named to the WCC All-Freshman Team in 2007. Rivers owns 195 career strikeouts.
