Senior Guard No Longer on Men's Basketball Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Senior Matt Hauser will no longer be a member of the Santa Clara men's basketball program.

"Due to a chronic injury in my right foot, I've had to make the very difficult decision not to play basketball this season," Hauser said. "In order to ensure a complete recovery, I will need to undergo intense treatment and therapy. From what I understand, this specific process does not have a definite healing deadline. For now, I would like to thank Santa Clara University for giving me the opportunity to play basketball. I'd like to especially thank my teammates, coaches, and the rest of the staff who have supported me endlessly for the past three years. I am incredibly grateful for the Athletic Administration, who has tirelessly continued to support me in every capacity and has allowed me to continue pursing my degree. I look forward to spending the next few months getting healthy and working towards graduating this winter. I wish nothing but good luck to the team this upcoming season."

Hauser played in 85 career games, including 57 starts, over the last three years. He averaged 8.2 points per game, including a career-high 10.3 in 2016-17.

During 2017-18, the 6-foot-1 guard missed eight games due to injury and started in 22 of his 23 appearances.

KJ Feagin and Henrik Jadersten joined Hauser as the returning seniors to this year's team, which has nine players who will suit up for the first time as Broncos.
