Three Men’s Basketball Players Earn All-WCC Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif.Tahj Eaddy, Josip Vrankic and Trey Wertz of Santa Clara men's basketball earned All-West Coast Conference recognition.

Eaddy, the team's leading scorer at 15.3 points per game, was voted to the second team, Vrankic, who averages 14.0 ppg and shoots 53 percent from the floor, earned honorable mention recognition, and Wertz, who distributes 4.8 assists pg, was an all-freshman selection.

Eaddy, a first-year sophomore, has scored in double figures in all but five games and ranks ninth in the WCC in assists (3.3 pg) for a team which has posted a 15-9 mark after a 1-5 start to the year.

One of four freshmen in the Santa Clara rotation, Wertz has started the last 28 games, averaging 12.2 points per contest (most among league freshmen). He set the school's freshman mark (143) for assists in Saturday's win over Portland.

A sophomore, Vrankic is second on the team in both points and rebounds (6.2) per game. He is one of only four players in the league to average at least 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting at least 50.0 percent from the field. Rui Hachimura and Brandon Clarke of Gonzaga, and Yoeli Childs of BYU – each first-team All-WCC selections - join Vrankic on the list.

Hachimura was the league's player of the year and Clarke was top newcomer.

The Broncos (16-14, 8-8) are seeded No. 6 in the WCC Tournament, which gets underway Thursday in Las Vegas. Santa Clara faces either seventh-seeded San Diego or No. 10 seed Portland on Friday at 8 p.m. Those teams face off at the same time on Thursday.
