Men's Golf in First Place at Rice Intercollegiate

MISSOURI CITY, Texas - The Santa Clara men's golf team is in the lead after two rounds of play at the Rice Intercollegiate, an event being held at the Willowisp Country Club in Missouri City, Texas. The Broncos sit atop the 14-team field with a score of 593 heading into tomorrow's final round.

In the first round of play, the Broncos combined for 304 strokes, finishing tied for eighth place with Louisiana-Monroe. Michael Nicoletti led the Broncos with a first round score of 73, tying him for eighth place in the 75-player field. Freshman Garrett Logan finished the first round with a score of 75 and stood tied for 21st after the first round of play. Broncos Jong Yoon and John Colyar finished the round tied for 41st, both with scores of 78. Eric Lillibridge finished tied for 63rd to complete the Bronco quintet.

In the second round, the Broncos battled back, outperforming the entire field and launching themselves into the first place slot. The Broncos combined for a score of 289, the best so far in the event. After the first two rounds, Nicoletti stands tied for the lead with Richmond's Tim Courtney. The senior shot an impressive 71, one over par, in the second round of play. Logan moved into a tie for 18th place with his second round score of 75. Colyar and Lillibridge stand tied for 23rd after two rounds while Yoon stands in 44th.

The third and final round of play will begin tomorrow, Feb. 7, in Missouri City. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. PST.
