EAGLE, Idaho - The competition for the Boise State Bronco Invitational title came down to two teams of Broncos Tuesday afternoon, and in the end it was the Santa Clara Broncos who came out on top to overcome Boise State and the rest of the 14-team field to win their second consecutive team title in as many tournaments.

Santa Clara's entire quintet finished in the top-30 individually, paced by senior Michael Nicoletti's three-round even-par score of 213, which tied him for second-place only one stroke back of medalist Graham DeLaet of host Boise State. Tim Lynch shot a 69 in this morning's final round to share the day's lowest round with Idaho's Christian Akau, while John Colyar carded a 73 to help the cause. As a team, Santa Clara's total score of 870 put them three strokes ahead of runner-up Boise State.

"The guys are putting in a lot of hard work to get where they are and now it is paying off, I'm just watching," commented head coach Rob Miller on his team's solid all-around play to start the fall season.

After entering the final round one stroke back of co-leaders Boise State and Northern Colorado, the Broncos kept themselves in the hunt with strong hitting and precise placement on their approaches. With a low round of 63 in yesterday's second round, the officials at Crane Creek Country Club decided to place the pins in more challenging spots on the greens. Senior Eric Lillibridge birdied the final two holes and Lynch birdied two of the final three to help put the tournament away in Santa Clara's favor.

"Consistently today the ball-striking was what the team did well," added Miller on the Broncos' final-round play. "There are a lot of out-of-bounds areas on this course and our guys kept the ball in play and had very few penalty shots. The placement on the greens was really the best part of their games today, as they hit the balls close to the pins which made the putting a little easier."

Santa Clara men's golf returns to action in two weeks for their only home tournament of the 2005-06 season, the SCU Invitational at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose. The first and second rounds will be played Monday, October 24 with the third and final round being played Tuesday the 25th.
