Men's Golf Brings Successful Fall Season to Close

Nov. 9, 2005

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Santa Clara men's golf team brought their most successful Fall season ever to a close Wednesday with a fifth-place finish in a 19-team field at the University of Hawaii Fall Intercollegiate at Kaneohe Klipper GC. Today's finish gives the Broncos two tournament titles, a runner-up finish and a Top-Five finish in four events.

Tim Lynch again led the way for the Bronco quintet as he shot a 75 for the day to finish the tournament with a three-round score of 222, eight strokes back of the title-winning total of 214 put up by four competitors.

John Colyar and Michael Nicoletti each carded a 77 Wednesday to finish with final scores of 223 and 225, respectively. Eric Lillibridge shot 76 in his final round of the fall while Jong Yoon turned in a 79.

With Wednesday's final round, the Broncos wrap up a spectacular Fall season that included two come-from-behind title wins, one at the Purple & Red Invitational in Utah and the second at the Bronco Fall Invitational in Idaho. Additionally, the Broncos cracked Golf Week's national Top-50 rankings for the first time in program history, currently standing at No. 37.

"Our guys were disappointed they weren't able to knock off any teams ahead of them, but we beat the teams we should have beaten," said head coach Rob Miller after today's final round. "Basically we maintained position and now we are looking forward to the spring to try to continue to improve our ranking. Today the guys played well and played up to the level that they've been playing and its just a matter of getting to the next level."

The Broncos will take the next three months off from competition before returning for the Spring season as they travel to Houston for the Rice Intercollegiate from Feb. 6-7.
