No. 40 Santa Clara Captures Second-Straight Tournament

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Due to inclement weather, officials announced this morning that Tuesday's third and final round of the Anteater Invitational would not be played at Mesa Verde Country Club. The Santa Clara men's golf team, on the basis of leading the competition with a team score of 578 after two rounds, was named the tournament's victor, the team's second-straight title to start the spring season.

The Broncos finished at the top of the eight-team field, with Arizona's "B" team finishing second with a score of 584 and UC Irvine taking third, two strokes back of Arizona at 586.

Tim Lynch and Michael Nicoletti finished tied for third in the individual competition with two-round scores of 144 (+4) on the Par-70 course, three strokes back of winner Travis Bertoni of Cal Poly.

Jong Yoon was seventh in the tournament, shooting rounds of 75 and 71for a score of 146 (+6). Eric Lillibridge shot a seven-over 147 while John Colyar rounded out the Bronco performance with a two-round total of 150.

Including the fall season, today's title is the fourth for Santa Clara in the 2005-06 season. Additionally, it is the team's sixth top-five finish in as many competitions.

The Broncos will return to action on the links next Monday, March 6, at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont.
