LAS CRUCES, NM - Three Broncos were under par in final-round play of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Tuesday, allowing Santa Clara University to move-up seven spots and place fifth overall in a deep 17-team field in Las Cruces.

Santa Clara posted the second-lowest team score of the day, averaging rounds of 1-under par 70, for a team total of 280. It was the Broncos' best round of the season.

"I was glad to see us dig out of a little bit of a hole after a slow start," said Santa Clara head coach Rob Miller. "The playing conditions were favorable today and we did what we needed to do. Hopefully we'll move up when the next national rankings come out this week. We are playing well. Things are looking good for us."

Scott Travers was 6-under par and finished three shots of the lead. Seventh in the 92-player field in Las Cruces, Travers posted his fourth consecutive top 10 finish - a great start to begin his junior season.

Cory Mehl shot rounds of 69, 71 and 70 to card a tournament score of 3-under and place 15th. Freshman Rick Lamb fired a season-low 68 Tuesday to fuel Santa Clara's team climb up the leaderboard.

"Big day from freshman Rick Lamb," said Miller. "Our younger guys are gaining some great experience and getting more and more comfortable. Everyone did their part, I can't say enough about Scott (Travers). He's been so steady for us."

Monday through Wednesday, November 2-4 the Broncos will play in their final fall event of the year, the Turtle Bay College Invitational at Kahuku, Oahu.
