Oregon's Junior Amateur Champion Signs with Santa Clara

Nov. 19, 2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara University men's golf head coach Rob Miller and the Broncos athletics department announced the signing of high school All-American Robert Monaco to a National Letter of Intent. Monaco has committed to attend Santa Clara in the Fall 2010 quarter and play for the Broncos in 2010-11.

Ranked No. 83 nationally among his high school class by GolfWeek, Monaco is in the midst of an outstanding prep career. He will graduate from Oregon's South Eugene High School next spring. A three-time all-state honoree, Monaco won Oregon's Junior Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in 2008.

"Bobby is one of the best young players in Oregon," said Miller. "He is going to add depth to a team that is going to be very good next year. His short game skills are exceptional. He has the ability to compete at this level right away."

Monaco has been honored by the Oregon State Activities Association (OSAA) as a First Team All-State golfer for three-straight seasons. His resume includes earning All-America honors on the Future Collegiate World Tour (FCWT), he was also selected to join the 2009 Oregon Junior America's Cup Team and is a two-time member of Oregon's Hogan Cup Team.

He commits to a Santa Clara program coming off a fall campaign in which the team placed in the top 10 of all five tournaments it entered, highlighted by winning championship honors at the Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Springs.

"He's got a great work ethic and he's excited about coming to Santa Clara," added Miller. "One of the reasons he is coming here is to compete as a freshman and he will."
