SCU's Scott Travers Places 54th at NCAA Golf Regionals

SANTEE, Calif. - Scott Travers shot a final-round 77 at the 2010 NCAA Division I Southwest Regional at Carlton Oaks Country Club near San Diego. The junior from Santa Clara University shot rounds of 75 (+3), 78 (+6) and 77 (+5) to finish 14-over par and tied for 54th.

Just four golfers in the 75-player field finished the three-day tournament under par. Carlton Oaks was playing to 7,360 yards at a par of 72. Cal State University Northridge individual qualifier Nick Delio finished atop the leaderboard at 3-under to claim the Regionals' at-large berth into the NCAA Championship on June 1-6 at The Honors Course near Chattanooga, Tenn.

The University of Oregon ran away with the team title, finishing 10 shots better than Augusta State University and 18 better than the University of California, the University of Tennessee and UNLV. All five of those schools move on to play in the NCAA Championships.

The junior from Santa Clara University posted an opening-round 75 (+3) Thursday, then a 78 (+6) Friday. Just six golfers in the 75-player field finished the day under par after day one.

Travers - the West Coast Conference Player of the Year - is vying for a spot in the NCAA Championship on June 1-6 at The Honors Course near Chattanooga, Tenn. The top five teams from each of the nation's six regionals and the low individual not a member of those teams will advance.

Travers will tee off Saturday, May 22 at 10 a.m. in Round Three. The Regional spans three days, Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22. Carlton Oaks plays to 7,360 yards at a par of 72.

Scott Travers Tees Off at the NCAA Regionals Thursday

SANTEE, Calif. - Santa Clara University junior Scott Travers tees off at the NCAA Division I Southwest Regional Thursday, May 20 at 10:20 a.m. The Regional which spans three rounds and runs through Saturday is hosted by San Diego State University and is being played at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club just outside of San Diego.

"There is some pretty long holes out there and small greens," said Travers after his practice round Wednesday. "I am going to need to hit the ball well and stay out of trouble. There is a lot of trouble out there."

The course is laid out over 7,360 yards and plays to a par of 72. The junior from Trabuco Canyon, Calif. will be playing 18 holes each of the next three days. Teams and individual qualifiers will be reseeded according to score after the both first and second rounds. Travers was awarded an at-large berth into the tournament based on an outstanding season, which included the honor of being named the 2010 West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

Travers is one of ten individual qualifiers in a 75-player, 13-team field that includes teams ranked in the top-40. The top five teams from each of the six regionals and the low individual not a member of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship on June 1-6 at The Honors Course near Chattanooga, Tenn.
